in character!

THE BASICS
NAME; Susan Eleanor Bones
JOURNAL;

[info]senseofhumer
DATE OF BIRTH; August 30th 1980
PLAYED-BY; Autumn Reeser / Amber Tamblyn
SEXUALITY; Straight

DELVING DEEPER
PERSONALITY; Susan has always been extremely quiet and shy and does not like talking to strangers. Those she is close to, however, she loves being around. Her friends are just as important to her as her family, to whom she is unusually devoted for a teenager. She loves her younger brother more than anyone else in the world. She's very smart and has a willingness to learn, make her at home in Hogwarts. She does very well in her classes, but has never really been the best in class, or the second best, really. She doesn't blame this on herself, but rather realizes that there are some incredibly gifted people in her class.
She is very dedicated to everything she does and never goes half way on anything. If she says she'll get it done, even if everything goes wrong, she'll be dead set on a way to fix it. She's not afraid to ask questions if she doesn't understand something. She has a knack for languages and her best class at the moment is Ancient Runes. She's also learning to speak Latin and a few other dead languages, and is proficient in French, but not quite fluent.
She's very sweet and kindhearted, and tends to see the best in people instead of their flaws. She's a little naive, and sarcasm is generally lost on her, as well as cultural references. She's always got her nose in a book, so she's too busy to keep up on the latest trends.
Lately she has gotten a little more street smart, and she's been a little jaded by the death of her aunt. She's often a little vacant and zones out, just lost in her thoughts. She's been a little depressed still, but has been getting better- she constantly assures her friends that she's alright and they have a lot more to worry about than her.
KEY DATES;

Her brother was born - June 29th 1991.
She was ten when her brother was born and it sort of marked a new era in her life. She was given a lot of responsibilities and took them all very seriously. Her brother still means a lot to her, and she babies him even more than she should. She's always spoiled him the worst out of everyone in her family.

First attended Hogwarts - September 1st 1991.
Something her sister had been talking about for years and sort of a rite of passage for young wizards. Most of her family before her had been in Gryffindor and she was a little dissapointed when she was sorted into Hufflepuff, but she quickly found herself to be at home there.

Aunt Amelia was killed - July 11 1996.
Growing up she had been very close to her aunt, and her death really affected her in a negative fashion. Up until she was killed, the war had seemed incredibly far away to Susan, like something that could never really touch her. Her aunt's death jerked her back to reality.

---

Parents are killed - Sometime before end of the summer.
All of her family members are rather prominent in the Wizarding world, mostly as political figures, which was why her grandparents were targeted in the first war and her aunt recently. When I play her in Postwar games, typically her entire family except for her younger brother has died, so maybe her parents could at some point during the game.

Has a falling out with her friends - Shortly after her parents death.
Despite her somewhat stoic behaviour after her aunt's death Susan was still a mostly agreeable person and tried to be upbeat around her friends so they wouldn't worry. After her parents died, she became much rougher and didn't attempt to put on any sort of front or facade, and also shut her friends out, and told them she didn't really need their help with anything.

Gets a job in the Ministry - Much later in her life.
She's always wanted to work at the Ministry, which she decided at a young age. This isn't something I'd be playing out in the game, obviously, but I do think it's an important part of her character. She's very committed to having this career choice work out for her and although it's obviously a turbulent time in the Ministry right now she still hasn't given up her dream.

HISTORY; The day Susan Bones was born, her entire family was waiting on baited breath. You see, even though the Bones family has been pureblood for four or five generations now, and even before that there were only a few muggles in the family tree, there is still a piece of Family Lore that the second born daughter would always be a squib. There had been no more than one daughter born per couple for years and years. Susan was the first in eight or nine generations.
Of course, magical talent can not be determined until later in life, and the wait dragged on. Meanwhile, her entire family assumed that she had none, and was therefore more delicate than her sister. Younger than her independant, slightly tomboyish older sister by six years anyway, her parents mollycoddled her. Even after she began showing magical talent at the age of six, she was always kept very close to her parents watchful eyes, never allowed to wander or go off by herself. Even though she lived in a magical community just outside of Cardiff where there were many young witches and wizards her age, she never played with them. She quickly became the wallflower of the two sisters while Emilie's popularity thrived.
When she was ten, her mother announced to her and her now 16 year old sister that she was pregnant again. At first, Susan was delighted at the thought of having a younger sibling, but was soon bogged down by the knowledge that late-life pregnancies such as the one her mother was having were often riddled with complications. The next few months were some of the scariest of her young life. Even though her new sibling had not even been born yet, she was very much devoted to it. Her care fore the unborn child worried her parents, who were already preparing for the worst.
Luckily, though, the preperations were not nessecary. Susan was given a slightly underweight, less than perfectly healthy, but very much alive younger brother, who was named David. She instantly bonded with the child, even though she was ten years older than him, and remains close to him to this day.
When she was eleven she got her Hogwarts letter and her family rejoiced, because now her magical abilities were official. she was very excited to finally be attending school with her sister (who was now in her Seventh year), but even more thrilled to be in the same house as her. During her first year, she got a lot closer to her sister, and is grateful that they got that time together (before, Emilie had just disregarded Susan as her silly younger sister, but now the girls were quite close friends). Susan was a little dissapointed she only got to spend one year with her sister but still spends the majority of her vacations with Emilie, who she worships like a goddess.
Emilie was the one who taught her how to play Quidditch summer after her second year. She was immediatly enamored with the sport, but never joined the school's team because of her other obligations. She follows the World Circut religously, though, and is always willing to make bets on the outcome of upcoming games with her friends.
As school bore on, things continued much in the same fashion. She excelled in most of her classes, but was never the best, and was involved in several after class clubs. She was never exactly popular, but had her circle of friends. She was basically average in everything she did and never stood out from the crowd, but that was alright with her.
In her fifth year she joined the D.A., and that was a sort of turning point in her life. For once she felt like she was really appreciated for her own unique talents (her knack for languages, for example), and not just part of the crowd. She's stuck with the D.A. ever since.
In her sixth year, the Death Eater who had killed her uncle Edgar and his family as well as her Grandparents escaped from Azkaban. There was a big fuss and suddenly she was the center of a lot of attention she didn't want. This only got worse she got wind of her Aunt's death.
Susan had always been very close with her Aunt Amelia and was devasted by her death. A lot of her sixth year was spent by herself and she didn't talk to her friends. She hardly corresponded even with her closest friend Hannah over the summer but has recently gotten back in touch with her friends. She doesn't like to talk about her Aunt at all when people ask questions, but will sometimes dicuss it of her own accord. She says things were starting to get better, but now everything is getting worse.
ALLIANCE; To be perfectly honest, Voldemort scares the shit out of her, and it's easy to see why. He's killed most of her family, when you get right down to it, including her Uncle and his wife, her Grandparents, and her Aunt. She's convinced that he has some sort of personal vandetta against her family and their days are numbered. Despite this fear of hers, she's perfectly willing to make a stand against him. She's always been a devoted member of the D.A. and is not about to be scared out of it now.
POTENTIAL RELATIONSHIPS; She's friends with everyone in her house and year, particularly Hannah and Justin. She doesn't care much for any of the Slytherin girls and thinks Pansy Parkinson is particularly mean. Lavender Brown and Parvati Patil annoy her. She's had a crush on one of the Hufflepuff seventh year boys since fourth year, but has never said anything to anyone about it, even Hannah.
